First Time Walker!

Hi There,
I'm a first time walker and need some advice on how to carry my water bottle that day. For those of you who are veterans out there, can you please recommend what is the best method?

Thanks!

most of us wear some sort of belly bag with the extra socks etc and mine has a place for my water bottle.

that's exactly what I do Jodi,
a fanny pack in which I carry extra socks, ID, money, and not much else, as everything is available on the walk. Maybe some band-aids would be good.
I also carry a waterbottle holder that goes to the side so it's easy to grab. I got that at the Running Room.

I just bought a new waist pack at LL Bean, it has two water bottle holders - I'll use one for water and the other for gatorade. I also carry some sort of pain reliever, extra socks, moleskin, my phone, lip balm and money. I don't travel as light as some others teamwork.gif.  Plus I also carry a back pack with my coat, shoes at the end to change into, and any extra food we get at the pitstops that we want to eat along the way.  Geez, I sound like a pack mule smile

oooh, carrying a back pack too? I'd never make it. I always packed a change in my bag and a pair of flip flops to put on and I changed before the closing ceremonies( the bags are usually available by the time I get in just beyond where you get your celebration shirts.

You can also send a bag with whatever you want to change into at the end of day one to the camp. I don't stay overnight, but always send a back pack with a change of clothes and my sandels to change into. They have a spot on the truck for non-campers.

At the closing, you can sometimes get your bag, but then again, you can always just take off your runners, change your sock, and put the loosened runners back on. Or if someone is coming to meet you at the end, have them bring you what you might want at the end.

There are lots of places (pit stops and grab n go's) to get water and gatoraid, If you don't want to carry two bottles, you can just altenate at the stops and fill your single bottle with whatever you want. (that's what I do, and have been doing for 8 years)

I would suggest that if you haven't been training carrying a lot of stuff, then the walk is not the place to start. Carry the necessities, a bottle, a fanny pack with socks, bandaids, advil/tylenol, a small tube of suncreen (although even that is available at the pitstops) lipbalm, money, ID.

hope that helps

I always carry some kleenex too....just in case the porta-potty I end up in has no paper!  :>)  I'll be the first to admit that this seldom happens any more, but I'm a 'just in case' type!

I take a small bottle of hand sanitizer, because the 'soap' at the porta potties DOES tend to run out.
