My feet are ruined :(

This was my 4th year walking and it was by far the hardest year yet.  My hips were giving me stabbing pain on day 1 and my feet hurt so badly on day 2 despite the massive amounts of NSAIDs in my blood that I cried from RELIEF when I crossed the finish line.

Last night I soaked them in a bucket of ice water and they're still all puffed up and swollen today.  I am SO GLAD I took the day off work.  I was going to get a massage, but I don't want to walk any further than I 100% have to, haha.

Yesterday I just kept reminding myself that I was doing something bigger than myself and my sore feet... That swollen feet are nothing compared to what people diagnosed with cancer go through.

I have to say that I completely forgot I was in pain at PMH.  Totally and completely.  I even jumped off the weekend monument which just seems insane to me looking back on it :)  PMH is hands down my favourite part of the walk every year.

How is everyone else doing? :)

One of the ER nurses said in the medical tent on Sunday morning to soak our feet in 1 part vinegar and 4 parts water.

My feet are a mess too..they always are.
I buy great shoes, the best socks etc. etc. etc. and I always get blisters.
It's something I know I am going to get  - so yah.

But weirdly enough, my feet are sooo swollen today too.

I took the day off work as well and hoping to get a massage later too.

And like you, this is really nothing compared to people who battle cancer and so I'm okay with this.

Okay...so I am ashamed to admit that my feet are just fine...nary a blister.  I guess a part of the thanks should go to my Bioped consultant, Debbie Parkes, who recommended my shoes, custom made and fitted my orthotics, and spent lots of time with me trying different adjustments after every training walk that I went on.

Interesting though....I was more tired and sore at the end of Day 1 than I was at the end of Day 2.  Must have been that restful sleep in the tent at Downsview (listening to planes and trains go by) that perked me up.

Congrats to all of you who did any part of the walk....you are all amazing!

You are not alone. This is my first year, and sadly I was unable to walk on Sunday due to the biggest blister I have ever had in my life. I couldnt walk let alone get shoes on and I am wearing flip flops at work today.  BUT I wouldn't trade this pesky blister or one ache or pain for the amazing experience of walking the 33 km to Downsview and the support and love of those along the route cheering us along. AWESOME!!!!!!! Congratulations of finishing.

I was the insane walker in high heels.
I know many of you were wondering why I would do something so, so crazy!!!

I tore the meniscus in my right knee in 2 places back in March and I'm getting an operation in 2 weeks.
My doctors didn't want me to walk at all.
I had to fight with them and promise I would only did 5 kms.
Even then they thought that was too much.
I have done the walk every year since the beginning in Toronto and this means so much to me.
My adopted sisters birth mother, Pat, (who was one of the sweetest people you would ever meet) died of cancer a few weeks ago in September and there was no stopping me from walking this year...

Well, the problem I have is that I can't bend my right knee so the only way that I can walk is to wear high heels to keep my knee straight.
I went to opening ceremonies, walked out of the gate and cried all the way home.
I took the subway down and walked only from Queens Park to the end. My daughter walked beside me to make sure that I was ok.
Not much but I got to honor my sisters Mom.
So my feet weren't happy but my knee made it!!
No, I don't recommend trying this.
But I did what I had to.

Next year I'll be walking along side all of you again and in running shoes, of course.

Thank you all for walking!
My sisters mom was not supposed to be with us as long as she was.
All of your efforts helped keep her here almost a year after they thought she would have lost the fight. This gave her time to spend with my sister and her other children and go in peace.
Thank you all.

I saw you with your high heels and did wonder how you could walk 60 km in them.

It makes the pain feel even more worthwhile when you read messages like yours! Good luck with the surgery!
