I've been trying out the duct tape suggestion that were posted here awhile ago and I've got to say I like it. It helps with the hot spots, if I find one I put it there next time and presto! less problems. It does stick to your socks though.
One place I can't put tape is at the base between my big toe and the next one. I keep getting a blister there. Any suggestions?
Perhaps the vaseline thing would help in this situation? Have you tried that?
The ball of the foot is so difficult to deal with... I always get a huge blister there! Duct-tape or blister pads just slip off because of the moisture!
Donna, are you wearing double layer socks? If not, get yourself a couple of pair! you feet will thank-you. I use Body Glide instead of Vaseline, it's not greasy and you can use it "anywhere" there is rubbing, without that sticky yucky greasy feeling you get from Vaseline
This will be my second year walking and I found my saving grace last year was GOLD BOND powder - that stuff keeps all moisture away and there is a cooling sensation to it that feels wonderful... rub it all over your feet (in between your toes) and sprinkle some into your sock.
The double-layer socks are also 'must haves' - I got mine at Running Free for around $12 - $15 a pair. Plan on having at least two pairs per day.
I always get a blister on the ball of my foot too.
First I tried duct tape, which worked okay, but the residue from the adhesive ruined my nice socks .
Since then, what I have found works for me are the Band-Aid Blister Cushion bandaids. I apply them to the area that blisters BEFORE I start a walk. I find I can go 10-12k before they start to slip off. So, I'm planning to bring 3 pairs of socks per day and change the band-aids and socks every 10k.
