Hey everyone! This is my first year doing "Weekend to End Breast Cancer" and I just joined today!
So with little over a month to go raising 2000$ is going to be a HUGE feat for me! (Specifically since I've never done fundraising before and am doing this on my own...)
Now, I've had a couple ideas for raising money, but one of the main things I would like to do is putt a few paintings up for auction that I've done.
Now, the real question is. I'm not exactly sure where to do this!
Does anyone have any ideas?
or even better yet, have a function going on in the future that these could go up at?
Welcome aboard Kristen! We're so thrilled you can join us!
First of all: don't panic! Second of all: make a list of every single person you know/come in contact with and then...
ASK! ASK! ASK! ASK!
Use the pre-written fundraising letters available in your participant centre as a template, personalize it and then email it to every person you can think of. Be sure to personalize your webpage on the WEBC site. If you're on Facebook, send out messages there, announce it in your status. Make every single person you know aware of what you're doing. Talk to your employer and see if they'll do a corporate donation.
Keep talking about it, keep asking. And don't forget to ask big! Ask for $50, heck $100, $500. Even if a person can't do that, they could still do $50 or $30. You'll never now until you ask! Are you a 'regular' somewhere. Ask if that establishment will donate. Hit up your gym, social meeting, faith group, your kid's friends' parents, your best friend's families, your neighbours... the ideas are endless!
I have exhausted all leads, asked asked asked asked and asked again and again.I know ell over 300 people and figured if they each gave me 10.00 I would be ahead of the game. Instead I am 1300.00 Short as of today. Nobody is willing to give me anything unless they can get something in return. Even family and friends have refused me donations. I work with 80 people, only 1 gave me a donation.
I am beside myself with sadness that I may have to pull out of the walk completely as I cannot even make the one day total now. Short of robbing a bank or selling myself on the street corner, (and that would pay anything) I have run out of things to do. Begging is not doing the trick. Any ideas to raise my quota in just over a month.
Have you tried offering advertising in exchange for free product or donation...
I have been at the Cambridge Center Mall twice and both times Sears loaned me a treadmill in exchange for some free advertising... I made almost $1000.00 combined with a donation jar...
One of my teammates is in the same boat. She's only managed to raise $475. :( I don't mean to intrude, but has your family and friends told you why they won't donate? Why are they so willing to see you Not reach your goal and do something so important? Again, sorry to be rude and intrude.
Have you thought about a garage sale or maybe a bake sale at work? I made just over $200 from a bake sale at my office.... I made "boobie" cupcakes. Ice each one and then put a sweddish berry in the middle. Sell for a $1 each. I had approx. 100 cupcakes, and then some people would give me a fiver and say keep the change. Others with a more health-concious mindset just tossed a loonie in and didn't have the cupcake.
Also, are there any places where you're a regular? Or even just love to go? Put your blue orientation shirt on, print off a couple of participant letters and donation forms and ask if they'll donate $200 in exchange for some free advertising. (And that's easy as a wink. Iron-on printable transfers are available in craft stores and you can just print off their logos and iron them on a tshirt to wear!)
And have you called your WEBC Coach? They might be able to help you out as well. 416-815-9255
I know it's tough Lucina. I've heard of a couple of ideas for your office.
Put a donation jar and a ballot box on your desk. A donation = a ballot for a pie of your choice. If you can send a company e-mail or put signs up somewhere visible you'll get more notice. You'll get donations and only be out the cost of a pie.
I have a pretty jar with lots of pink jelly beans (strawberry cheesecake from the bulk store). A donation=a ballot to guess the number of jelly beans. Closest wins the jar. I'm going to leave it out for a couple of weeks and see what happens.
You could also make up treat bags for coffee breaks or cookies for after lunch.
None of these are a big deals to donate to and might add up.
As for family and friends, maybe you could auction or sell services like walking their dog or cleaning or mowing.
Or if you work in an office - $2-$5 jeans day (of course this has to be passed by your manager). There are a lot of things you can do in an office - you just have to be creative.
Send out more e-mails - make sure your story (why you joined; what it means to you) is as heartfelt as it can be. Tell them the truth and let them realize how much this event means to you.
A great way to make money is do some 50/50 draws at your work or office, people love these. I did one last year at my work and raised 501.00. Tomorrow I sell tickets for this years, and hopefully will do well this year. Tickets can be sold for $2 each or 3 for $5. You would be surprised how fast this money adds up. If your work allows it do one a week until the walk.
