Martini party

Hello Fellow Walkers!

My team and I are planning a Pink Martini Party at my home as a fundraiser.  We will have food, prizes and pink martinis of course!!  I am looking for advice and feedback from other walkers who have held similar events.  Did you sell tickets to come?  Did you sell drinks?  If so, do we need to get a liquor license? Did you raffle off prizes or did you auction them off?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Great idea Cheryl!

I haven't done this before but I'd still like to give my input :) haha

Okay, I know a lot of people have done events like this where they open their house doors and invite their friends and family over for dinner and then charge everyone like $10 or so.
Maybe think of doing that. Like $10, $20 or so a head, which will gives them whatever you want to offer (you said, food, prizes and pink martinis). That way, you are making money right away.
Then consider doing a fundraiser raffle or prize draw (maybe even a seperate raffle for door prizes just for coming/purchasing a ticket to come).
I would suggest contacting local restaurants for gift certificates to raffle off (Pickering and even Scarborugh is very good with giving away giftcards for their restaurants - I know you live around these areas) and even contact hair salons etc.

Just my two cents :)

Good luck Cheryl!!

Hi Cheryl,

As Ashley said, it's a great idea! A teammate of mine did a BBQ fundraiser in her backyard. I believe that she charged something at the door, which was for the BBQ itself. She then charged for the alcohol drinks (probably about $2.50 or $3.00 a drink). She had games (cards, and other games that you'd pay to play and the winner would get a prize) & raffles (she had some places donate raffle items). She worked the raffle that you'd buy tickets, then if you're ticket was called out, you could go an pick something from the prize table.

The liquor license is a whole other thing..... You are not allowed to SELL alcohol in your home. I believe that people having weddings and that sort of thing, at their home, have to get a special permit for the achohol, but I belive that you still can't sell the alcohol. Honestly, since this will be at your home and you'll be inviting people you know (that I would assume won't tell on you) I would just buy the alcohol without saying anything, and sell it at your party. I realize with a liquor license you can return any unopened alcohol for your money back, so you might end up having extra left over, but you could always do a second party to recover your costs if there's too much left.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!! :)

I'm with Noreen! You may want to ask for a "donation" of a certain amount for drinks, then you're not technically selling them. Especially since it's in your own home!
Good luck, be sure to post how it goes :)

I think its a great idea, and I believe that donations is the way to go. I also think there may be rules on how you advertise the event since drinks will be involved, however I am not 100% sure!

Good Luck!

There are 2 different liquor licences - one for an event that is having alcohol - $25 and the other is if you are selling alcohol or even selling tickets to an event that has free alcohol - this one is $75....but if you are just having your friends and family I don't think it would be any different then just having them over for drinks at your house!! ! They are just giving you a little tip for your service!!!
