Tag day at Walmart need some advice

Our team has a table booked in early March at our local Walmart. When we phoned to ask about getting a day we were thinking sometime in May or June and to have a BBQ outside. We were told those were bad months for Walmart because of their own corporate events and that March would work best. THey said they would give us a table inside the entrance of the store so customers would have to walk right past us.

The thing is we don't want to just stand there asking for donations we want to entice people by offering them something. We have about 160 pink ribbon bracelets we were going to sell ie. a $2 donation gets you one of the silcone bracelets, a $5 donation gets you a silver toggle bracelet.

Any other ideas as to what we could do to get people to give a donation or a larger donation? This is our first time doing the walk and this will be our first fundraising event so any help we could get would be great.

When we fundraise at Walmart we have all our pink ribbon items on the table for a $5 donation. We also put together a gift basket of products and gift cards from the city that we are fundraising in. Any donation amount gets into the gift basket raffle!!! This is what we do anyways! Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. Very helpful. Could I ask, how well do you usually do when you do something like a table at Walmart. Since this is our first time doing this we're not sure what kind of response to expect and also how much stuff do you usually get to put out on your table. I dont' want to have too little and run out etc.

Thanks for your help

Tracy

Walmarts are usually very successful for us...of course I guess it depends on what you deem successful. One thing you should do though is ask the manager if they will match your donations. Most do and being the start of their budget shouldn't be a problem. We use items from Randy that have done well in the past for us...magnets, wristbands, and ducks are very popular items for us and we add different items every once and a while to mix things up!

Thanks for the advice. We're just trying to figure out how much stuff we should order.
I'll ask our walmart rep about matching donations. That would be great if they did!!

Hi Tracy,

I actually make my own bracelets that each have a pink ribbon charm on them. They usually sell really well. I haven't done anything at Walmart yet though, and was hoping to get in there this year. I know what you mean, that you want to make sure you have enough product there. It's good to have one of those 6 foot tables that folds up. Just put a table cloth on it, and have some pink balloons to attract attention. With the bracelets that I make, I sell them other places too, so I always make sure I have lots of them available for any show I do (I haven't done any tag days though).

Which Walmart are you going to be at (which city)? Just so I make sure that I don't approach the same Walmart that you've already approached!!!

We're going to be at the Ancaster Walmart.

We have about 350 pieces of pink ribbon items for people to take their pick from when they make a $5 donation (the usual stuff, ducks, notebooks, bracelets etc). I have no idea if that's too many pieces or not enough as I've never done one of these events before. What we don't sell we can use at our next event in April I suppose. But I also don't want to sell out and then miss a lot of sales opportunities.

Anybody have any feedback on how much stuff they usually take to a tag day etc??????

Well, my goal is to sell at least 70% of it at our Walmart tag day. We have a few other tag tags booked already so I'm sure in the end we'll go through it all. We changed our strategy so we're down to 270 pieces of pink ribbon gear.

I think you should have enough. :) Just put a bit of each out on the table, and keep the rest in boxes under the table, hidden by the table cloth. Then you can just re-stock the table as needed.

Good luck!!! I hope it goes well for you!

Just thought I would leave an update since we had our walmart tag day yesterday. We were there for 6 hours and almost sold out of everything we had. We made over $1300. We were very surprised. We thought if it was a really good day we might make $500 or so.

I called this morning and they said to fax them a letter and they would see if they have anything available...whatever that's suppose to mean.
