NEW-- help

This is my first time doing this walk and I'm a little confused on how to get donations.

Is there a form or a way for people to fill out and donate to me, or can they only donate online?

I wanted to have my parents and neighbors help me but I think it's more difficult to do that if they have to go online

Hi. I am sure all of this seems overwhelming to start but you will get it all sorted out quick enough. If you have a participant page, you can print out donation forms for people to fill out. Then they can either mail them in, or give to you to mail in, or if they make the cheque out to you, then you can enter their donation online, and use their email for them to get the tax receipt. If none of this makes sense, give the office a call and they will gladly help you out. Have fun!

Hi There,    There are so many ways that you can fundraise for this Walk.

If you feel comfortable asking people to donate to you, give them the information on the Walk; let them know how to find your page and some can donate on-line themselves or send cheques to the donation address.  If someone gives you cash, you can do their donation on-line using your credit card, but make sure you put all their information (including email address) for the donation.

Have all that information handy so that if someone asks, you can direct them.

Send letters/emails to all whom you think might donate.

Add your fundraising badge to your emails.

Look for tag day opportunities.

Make (or buy) and sell something to co-workers, family and friends and also at tag days.

Hold parties/dinners/pub nights/bowling/etc.  I've not done these, but some people are very successful with this.   Look at last year's events and general discussion items on this message board to get some ideas of what people have done in the past for reference.

When donations are made on-line, you will get a copy of their tax receipt in your email.   It is a good idea to have a directory on your computer in which you should save all these receipts in case your donor loses their receipt.   I make separate files for every walk, so that nothing gets confused with another year.

Keep an excel spreadsheet on your donors, their donation amount, address, etc.  You may want to approach those same people next year.

Be sure to thank people for their donations.

If you want to contact me to chat, I'm at dloreilly@hotmail.com    Please put the cancer walk in your subject line so I don't delete without reading.

Good luck with your fundraising.
