Hi I just wanted to send out a Big Thank You to Lesley and Sheona for allowing me to join them as we walked on Saturday. I started with a group of ladies and lost them within the first 10 mins. On day 2 I lost Lesley at the 2nd stop as I took the sweep van. However along the way I met with other groups and had some lovely chats. The Cosmic girls took me under their wings as we were getting close to the end and we talked about next year. Finally just before crossing over the bridge to the final leg of the walk I met 2 irish ladies to walk with I believe they were sisters Jean and ? One was a 3yr survivor and her sister accompaning her. As we crossed the finish line they took my hand we held them in the air in solidarity in the fight against cancer. With so many people all converging at once I again lost my mates. I just wanted them to know that I appeciated all the conversations and laughter we shared along the way. Although on such a walk you are never alone it's nice to look over and see a smiling face looking back. Thanks Again Ladies
I agree - this is a very special event mostly because of the people you meet. This year I walked with my team mates but last year I walked alone and met a whole bunch of wonderful people who shared stories and helped support me when I thought I couldn't go any farther. At this year's event I also had a few "fun" moments with some new friends along the way and with all the cheering and high fives you get during the route - its like you've been training with these same individuals for some time - Everyone's pulling for you and they're all just letting you know - you can do it! The community, the crew, the volunteers and the walkers - what a great group of strangers!! Have never gotten the same comradery at any other charity event - its definitely what makes "the weekend" so grreat!
