I agree these boards are very quiet. I miss the chat boards that we had at the beginning of these walks -- there was far more connections. I found the facebook stuff too confusing. I check this board consistently, but there aren't many of us using this one considering how many of us are walking. Have fun getting ready. wish everyone good luck and lets hope for perfect weather( not this hot stuff and no downpours like 2 years ago). I know, we walk anyway, but...........
I'm with you....I much prefer this message board to facebook (I won't use the facebook board) but I really preferred the old message board....it was always hopping and gave one a real feel of 'family'.
The good thing about this one is that Ashley is a 'senior' and I'm not....and I'm staying low key to keep it that way.

Yeah, I've noticed it's quieter on here this year too! I can't get on FB at work, so I much prefer this board so I can check it out during lunch. I rarely remember to check out the one on FB when I get home at night.

2011 will be my sixth year walking, but it will be Ottawa this year.
I popped over to Facebook and had a look. Mostly what's there are updates from the organizers. There really is not much in the way of discussions going on there either. A lot of news type posts mostly.
There was one post asking about last minute fundraising (from someone who was thinking of joining... so not a participant yet), so I responded to that one.
There was also a very touching post about a very young child (just turned 4) with a juvenille form of breast cancer... she recently had a mastectomy (in June), but her prognosis looks to be excellent (no need for chemo or radiation). Here are a couple of links to stories about her:
On the Facebook site her mom Melanie Hunter writes: "My daughter and I will be volunteering for the Weekend to End Women's Cancers. Aleisha is 4 and was diagnosed and treated surgically for breast cancer, we will be at the beginning of the walk on the Welcome Team and at the end of the walk handing out Victory Shirts, we look forward to meeting all of you at this memorable weekend!"
I am definitely hoping I will see them at the Walk, as I want to meet this beautiful little survivor.

Hmmm... I wrote a long reply and it vanished... although the main page indicates it should be here. Strange...

Ah... now I see it... poor administrator. The system has decided my posts need to be verified before they can be posted. Now they will have to wade through all of the duplicates I sent because I didn't see the "Your message needs to be approved by an administrator before it will appear on the forum" message at the top of the page... oops.
It must be because I added links to articles. They are the same links that someone else posted to the Facebook site (about a lovely little girl who has recently been battling breast cancer), so I'm sure they are going to be ok... just have to wait for the administrator to double check them.

I thought I was the only one who thought things were a little quiet. I find around this time I really need to "connect" with other walkers. I start to get really excited and just want to feel I am not alone :o)
I too hope it's not hot (last year) or too rainy (year before) but we will take whatever we get!
