I'm hosting a pig roast/pool party for friends and family and asking guests to make a donation rather than bringing wine, hostess gifts, food items etc. I know that the cost of hosting the party will be quite expensive and perhaps not that much money will be raised, but I would have held the pig roast anyway so I might as well try to raise a few dollars. Having said that, I'm thinking of asking Loblaws, Metro etc. if they will give me a special price on some items or, better yet, donate them outright.
Has anyone had any experience, tips, advice doing this?
I held a fundraiser and I was able to get Sobeys to donate cases of water as well as No Frills donating pop. That was a bit of a break b/c I had 50 people at the event. I know that Superstore, Costco and Metro might donate but you need to go there in advance of the event at least a month with a participant letter and they will put you in with their other pool of people looking for donations and will let you know if they can help you out. I live in a small town so I always approached the stores as making a donation to the commmunity. They seem to like it when you put it that way. I also did up a request letter giving them a bit of information about my fundraiser as well.
Hope that helps you out, Tiffany
