Non-existant training.

I am a mom of 3 (5 and under.) They keep me busy. Very Busy.   I have however been able to exceed my fundraising goal.

I have not been able to find the time to train.  I have bought to pairs of walking shoes.  The first might have a total of 20km on them.  The second pair pretty much nadda.  I've been able to do (relatively easily) 10km (half of that up hill).

What can I do now to better prepare myself (and my shoes).  Can I still make a good go of preparation in the few weeks I have left?  If I can manage a few 20 km walks between now and then, will I be ok?  I'm slighly nervous.  This is the first time I've done anything like this!

Yes, you can do it. If you can get a few longer walks in before Day one that would be great. But even if all you can do is a shorter walk each day (5ks) you will do fine. The most important thing is to make sure your shoes fit you well and won't cause blisters. If you can do a 10K without too much problem it means you are probably in decent shape.
It is one thing to walk by yourself, or with one or two others, but when you walk with almost 5000 people the energy you receive is amazing. It will help you through those rough patches when you don't think you can take another step. So, walk whenever you can, as much as you can and look forward to a fantastic weekend!

I agree with Doreen completely. It is so much more inspiring walking with the group. You will find you can do more than you think you can. My first year, last year, I didn't train as much as I would have liked, however, I did make it and I didn't have any blisters. I was able to go on a business trip the next day, flying to the states. I was sore but it was manageable. I truly think a strong mind is as, if not more important, than strong legs. Good Luck.

Adrenaline will help! If you can walk up hill, you're likely ok. For a variety of reasons I haven't gotten in the long training walks I'd like to either, but my regular walk is 10k on most days, so I figure I'll be ok.
Don't forget to stretch at the stations along the walk. Stretching will help keep lactic acid from building up in your muscles--that's what makes you sore after exercise. Look at the stretches on the Weekend website, they will help.
I'm planning on taking some advil at camp too--it should help with inflammation and reduce any soreness in my legs.
Looking forward to walking with everyone!
