I started my journey with the weekend to end breast cancer in 2007. Originally, I wanted to join because my friend, Jenny participated in the 2006 event and it took me by great shock at how involved I wanted to become - how much I wanted to help her and how many questions I had about the event.
The biggest reason I joined in 2007 was because my aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer. It took my whole family by shock and I didn't know how to express myself or show how much I supported her, so I paid the $75 registration fee and I was on my way.
And here I am, three years later, still fighting for the same cause, fighting for the same people (and sadly the list gets longer).
I am here because this event has changed my life. This event is the strangest way to get a bunch of people together. A bunch of people who have their hearts in the right place. A bunch of people who care for others, probably more than they care for themselves. This event is incredible.
Memorable moments: - In 2007, my first year, being so scared of reaching my goal of $2000 (I did it!). - In 2007 being so scared of what was a head of me. Not knowing if I would cross that finish line (and I did!). - Walking and having families come out of their houses, handing us food (homemade might I add), water, candy, BEER etc. Having these people open their houses for us if we had to use the washroom. Having these people take time out of their busy day to make a sign(s), hang balloons, or literally stand on their driveway and cheer us on (every time, this makes me tear up) - Reading signs that say "You're walking for me" / "Thank you" / "You're the reason I am alive". - Having little children cheer us on - handing us pins that say "You're someone's angel" ( I still have this hanging in my car).
**I just had to walk away from my desk because I was literally crying ! haha
- After two years, walking with two of my good friends in 2008. Then having one of their mothers come to a pit stop to cheer us on. (I for one have NEVER had anyone come and cheer me on DURING the walk - only at the end - and to have someone half way through day 2, really made a difference). I still cry when I think of how emotional I got when I saw her standing there, sign in hand. - The people, the people are amazing. The crew do everything you'll ever need. The motorcycle crew is amazing at keeping us safe and everyone else involved in the event is amazing. Everyone is there for the same reason and everyone has such great spirits! - The feeling you have when you reach your $2000.00. Relieved. The feeling you have when you cross the finish line. Amazing. The feeling you have when you realize you just walked 60 kms - indescribable.
These are just a tiny snapshot of my three years being a part of this event.
Through the blisters, foot ache and tears - I wouldn't have it any other way :)

Naamphong - I too hope we run into one another. Last year, as you can tell through my picture, I put my name on my shirt so people would recognize it from the message boards and hopefully come up and say hello - Noreen was one of these people who I met because of my shirt. I am planning on doing something like this again (only this time, pinning my name to my shirt so I don't ruin the Trade Secret shirt).
