WALKING IN BRAMPTON

Hi Everyone

This is my first year doing the Walk. But I work 11am-7pm so I am unable to participate in the Training Walks. I live in the Main and Vodden area and I am hoping to go walking at around 6 AM at least 2 times a week.

Even if you are unable to walk with me I am actually fairly new to Brampton so I am not really sure of walking paths. I have it checked that from my house to Shopper's World and back is 10KM. I plan on using this as my training course.

I see the paths but haven't had time to explore. Are they safe? I am from Barrie and there is a path around our lake shore which is police monitored. Are any of the paths monitored by police? And do you know if there are maps of the paths. I have checked the City of Brampton website and didn't see any.

Thank you,

Hi Aimee,

I had a whole message typed out and hit the wrong button and lost it all.... lol

So let's try this again.

Welcome to the walk!!!! :)

The Etobicoke Creek trail is right near your door. It's the trail in Brampton that I enjoy the most. If you go along it starting at Vodden and get up to Sandalwood (Loafers Lake) and back, that's 10 kms. It's actually the trail that the organized Brampton training walks are done on. But I see from your post that you can't get there after work and want to go out at 6am before work instead. So you might be best to walk to roads in this case. The Brampton trails are not monitored at all, so it's always best to walk with at least one other person. I personally haven't ever heard of anything happening on the trail, but I'm sure you don't want to take the chance.
If you do ever get a chance to do the trail, it really is quite nice. It goes from south of Steeles all the way up to Mayfield. (although it cuts off just north of Queen where you have to take the road for a bit).
I do have a map of the 3 Brampton trails, but I have to find where I put them. I also find that they are a bit difficult to follow when you're on the trail. Once you've walked it a few times, it's easier to figure out. (I'll post the maps on here once I can find them).

Depending on where your house is located, I know that the trail from Vodden down to Steeles and back does work out to be 10kms. It might be a bit less going by the road.

If I was a morning person, I'd try to meet you at the path at 6am, but would kill me. ha ha
I also work at 9am, so I wouldn' t have enough time to get back home, and then to work. If you're ever on vacation though, and can walk on a weeknight, post it on here and we can meet up. (or on a weekend, but as most, my weekends get pretty busy)

Good luck with your training!!!

Noreen
